Wii and Mii

In the console wars, people always tend to buy the one that offers the most games, the best controllers, the console that offers more customizations or the device that can be used for more than just gaming. If you are a gaming addict then maybe this is what you look for in a console and you might just go for either the PS or the Xbox, but for people who see gaming as “fun” then the hands down winner would be the Wii.

The Wii is Nintendo’s candidate to the “modern console war” and it is either loved or hated by gamers worldwide. One reason that the Wii is so good (or bad, depending on where you stand) is that it’s a console made for fun. Purists claim that a console that’s made purely for fun is no match to the PS or the Xbox, but for a family of 4 with a free Sunday, the Wii is the ultimate bonding machine.

Aside from the fun factor that the Wii brings with its unique system is the Mii. The Mii is supposed to be a representation of the player inside the game, call it an avatar if you may. The player can easily create his/her own Mii via the Wii’s Mii channel. The personalization is limited to a point but players are oftentimes more encouraged into creating caricatures. With the Nintendo 3DS, a player can take pictures of him/herself and use the on-board facial recognition software to create a Mii.

The Mii contains necessary data like high scores or such and can be uploaded into a Mii network. But the real fun in Mii creation is when you can actually use your created Mii on your games. The created Mii will in no way affect the gameplay because it’s just for aesthetic purposes. Also, because the Wii can save up to 100 Miis at a time, some saved Miis can make cameo appearances as either teammates, opponents or even as audiences. Mii’s are also used as icons for players. They are usually used more for identification purposes.
In this world where even the games we play tend to be violent or gory, it’s always nice to take a breather. A Wii is always a good source of relaxation for hundreds of gamers worldwide. It’s fun, interactive but competitive at the same time. With the addition of the Mii, the player’s world is no longer limited to the four corners of his/her room.
