Not that the Sims needed much by way of additional wholesomeness, but it certainly seems to be a natural fit with Nintendo. In MySims, players are charged with dragging a town from a state of general decrepitude to being a lovely place to spend an afternoon. To kick things off, players will build their character. A wide range of items are available to customise characters, with players able to create looks ranging from the more conventional (baseball cap and pigtails) to the downright grungy (dreadlocks and mohawks). Once you've got your character up and running, it'll be time to get to work. The town's going to need sorting out, for one. It's pretty rundown, but with a bit of elbow grease and a touch of Nintendo control wizadry, players will be able to get it ship-shape in no time. Using a set of building blocks and tools, players will be able to to build anything from a piece of furniture right up to a brand new home! Of course, it wouldn't be a Sims game if you weren't going to spend a bit of time with the folk around you. Among the locals you'll find the ever-busy Mayor Rosalyn P. Taking the best elements of the first-person from Metroid Prime and coupling it with third-person platforming akin to the classic games, Other M is like interacting with a dynamic space opera. Regular control is made by holding the Wii Remote sideways like a NES pad, using the two buttons to jump and shoot. Flipping the Remote vertically and pointing it at the screen switches the camera to first-person view, where you can examine environments more closely and fire more accurately. As you would expect in a Metroid game, there will be many power-ups and suit upgrades for Samus to obtain throughout the game, and all these evolving abilities will be required to survive the adventure that she faces. Xenoblade Chronicles(2011) (Wii) $34.99 Xenoblade Chronicles is a role-playing video game published developed by MonolithSoft (Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans) for the Nintendo Wii. The game attempts to convey the feeling of freedom through large, expansive environments. In terms of combat there are both ‘Normal’ and ‘Special’ Attacks. The latter are known in game as ‘Arts’ and each one of these has has their own charge-up (or cool-down) time. Unlike normal attacks that can be queued up so that their use is automated, the ‘Arts’ are used manually when they become available to the player and character. Each character has their own Art, these appear on screen in a Battle Palette. This shows in which order or combination that Arts can be deployed. The gamer can alter this order while not in battle. Xenoblade Chronicles makes use of what is called the “Visions System”. This is where the main character in the game – Shulk – is able to see small snatches of future events which he must then attempt to stop occurring. Shulk is armed with the energy blade called Monado with which he must defeat the mechanical demons called Mechon which attacked his home in Colony 9. The game comes with day and night time cycle, although the gamer can set the game clock to whatever time they wish in order to skip to it. You do this by gaining notoriety in raiding and plundering the 17th Century Caribbean, winning in colossal ship battles and besting rival pirates in swordplay. A vast game world is yours to explore, as you sail out for adventure. Stock up on food and resources to keep your crew happy, and dock in ports to relax, marry suitable wenches and partake in a little bit of dancing. You can manage your crew in dock as well, and recruiting new members is essential to running an efficient ship. Collect treasure maps, take part in various missions and wreak havoc on the local townspeople before moving on to the next port of call. Along the way you'll get to play some mini-games to enhance your adventure – from the sword-fighting and ship combat modes from the original classic, to two Wii-exclusive games in Bombardment and Lock Picking.
